Water filtering system for camping 露營濾水系統

I ain't a huge fan of water filtering.  I can accept stream water, and even muddy water.  I started camping more than 20 years ago and drinking stream water without filtering was a fact of life for camping.

對於濾水，我從來都不太熱衷。我自己接受到溪水，甚至泥水都幾乎得！我廿多年前開始露營，當年飲溪水實在係家常便飯，當年亦無咩人提過濾呢個問題！

In this short article, we're not dealing with brand and types of water filter, I just want so share the system as whole, how to make it simple and stupid, convenient and effective.

呢度唔講牌子，唔談類型，只講點樣配置可以令到件事最簡單，方便又好用！

First of all, let's talk about the simplest case.  In this situation, we have tap water, but then it could be yellowish and somehow even muddy.  The source should be untreated stream water through pipes, and it was not used actively so that the pipe could become rusty and the water could become muddy.  A simple domestic tap filter could be used with great results:

首先講最簡單既情況。有時露營場有水喉，但啲水卻可以好黃或者有沙泥。呢種水喉九成係山水，呢啲水本身已經有沙泥，再加上用既人唔多，閒日更加無人用，所以啲沙泥會積聚。呢種情況買個家用濾水頭已經好唔錯！濾過好過無濾好多架！至少濾完已經無沙泥。



These filters could be very cheap and effective, but one might want to apply secondary filtering.

呢種過濾頭好鬼平，但又已經好有效。當然，有潔癖既可以考慮再過濾一次，好似以下咁情況。

The next configuration could be a bit more complex.  In that case, you have a dirty water reservoir, you have a clean water bag, and in between, you have the filter attached.  To make the filtering automatic, gravity is very effective and simple to use.

呢種情況比較複雜，首先，要有一個未過濾既水袋，又有一個裝過濾咗既水，咁中間當然就係放濾芯。要令到件事最簡單，萬有引力就最好喇！吊高佢，慢慢滴，唔使手動，不必用電。



Notice that once a bag was used as the "dirty" water reservoir, one should reserve it for that particular purpose.  The above setup was used as secondary filtering.  The use of primary water tap filter could make the life of your filter longer apparently.

記得用過嚟裝未過濾既水袋就最好永遠都用返嚟做呢個用途，用既時候標示清楚，免得混亂。上面呢個陣已經做再過濾都得，其實係一樣既！不過咁，如果係有水喉過濾頭搞咗一次之後，你枝貴價濾芯就可以長命一啲！

Let's take a close look of such system.  On the top, you have a dirty water bag filled with unfiltered water, in the case below, it's a hydration bladder for hiking.  I cut the pipe short for simplicity.  The other end of the pipe was connected to the water filter, for example, life straw or sawyer filters has interface ready for that purpose.

以下用日間照片等大家睇清楚啲。上面裝未過裝既水，我用平價行山飲水袋，剪短條喉可以令件事簡單啲，另一邊就駁濾芯。坊間如 life straw 或者 sawyer 之類都可以直駁水袋條喉，因為佢地都設計成可以直接飲！所以呢種駁法係最簡單，唔使搞 adapter...

To allow faster filtering, one should remove any air within the pipe before attaching the filter.

留意返，條喉有時會有空氣，最好駁濾心之前就放少少水，逼走啲氣先，咁出水會快勁多！

The clean water bag was placed below to collect filtered water.  A clean water bag with a tap could be a very convenient choice.

收集已過濾既水袋當然放下面，正所謂人望高處，水往下流！我用咗個有水龍頭既水袋放下面，攞水時就極方便喇！

原來都過濾得幾快架！

The hydration bladders took about 2L of water, and the clean water bag below holds 4L.  In the water source is close, you don't need a third dirty water bag, but if it's far away, it's nice to keep one more bigger dirty water bag and it could be nice to let the mud precipitate first before filtering.

我呢個行山飲水袋可以裝 2L 水，下面個水袋可以裝 4L。如果水源近，就咁兩個水袋就夠晒！但如果水源要行得遠，最好就要再多一個大既水袋，用嚟裝未過濾既水，免得要走好多轉！多一個大水袋亦有個好處，就係俾時間啲水沉澱吓先再倒入去過濾。

Fixing my Maple Titanium Stove

During a certain camping trip, I accidentally stepped on the stove and got one leg of the stove distorted.  It ends up like this:

On close examination, I found the metal stub for fixing the location of the leg when extended, was distorted.  That metal stub was extrusion molded.

So, I ended up drilling a hole through the stub!

In order to serve the function of the stub, I placed a M2 screw through it, it's a bit long but it works.

It's not perfect but it works.  I shall look for replacement when there's a discount.  I could live with this one certainly.

Stressed tested with a bigger pot, very stable and no problem!

See the repairing at close, the red arrow is the original titanium stub, the blue is a screw fixed in the hole by drilling through the stub.

The fix has been tested in the same place (狗嶺涌) as above!

淘寶直運

淘寶近來都幾積極推直運。

最初係搞咩直運咭，十五蚊人仔，三次十五蚊以下直運免費，另外又有啲紅包，結果我就試咗。

結果發現，我買三件貨，有時會分三次送，有時會集埋一包先送，都幾煩。

無所謂喇，都幾扺用。

但最後我用晒三次之後就無再買，因為覺得佢地鼓勵我買野既方法。平時真係有野買先買，仲要儲到有幾件先一次過買。

後來到雙十一，佢有得抽奬，感覺人人都抽到，我抽到五十蚊人仔，咁都好丫，唔使錢，咪照用咯，最後咪一啲貨用直運，以五十蚊為上限，其餘用返集運。

當日發現好似貴咗，運好少野就用完五十蚊，簡單講，五十蚊只得兩件唔係咁重既貨！不過心諗，唔使錢，是但喇！

直到某天....

收到電話話送貨上嚟屋企！仲話要收二十蚊送貨費，我話唔制，叫佢改送自提點！誰不知，自提點都一樣要收二十蚊！立時有中計既感覺！

後來發現，依家直運 default 係送去你家，而以前我買直運卡，那時 default 係自提點，而且係唔使附加費！

似乎真係一個局嚟！我諗唔到點解要用直運了...

就算無呢個局，直運都唔吸引，首先，你買野時要考慮清楚，一次過落單！無咗彈性！

直運唯一方便係唔使等齊貨再人手叫佢集運！但其實快唔得幾多，亦唔方便得多好多！

簡單講，用返集運喇！又平，又簡單，亦差不多速度！

嶂上營地水源

嶂上營地不難去，但營地除了許林士多內，並沒有水源。

許林士多平日未必開放，但若沿嶂上郊遊徑步行上去，路上仍有數個不錯的水源，就算沒有下雨，水量仍算穩定。

我是在秋冬時份上山，兩星期內沒下過雨，以下是水源的大約位置：

第一個普遍地圖都有顯示，就是猴塘溪，大路稍稍走入去便看見，路段易走易認：

入口處是 C5201 和 C5202 之間，比較近 C5202，路口處有下圖郊遊徑的標示柱：

路是這樣的，很分明易認，也不難走：

這溪比較闊大，水量極為充足，但離開營地亦最遠，宜上水途中取用，若然先紥營再取水，來回要 20 分鐘以上。

再放大看另外兩個水源位置：

這兩個位置基本上已經上到山上，屬平地部份，也有一些廢村屋在林中，似乎以前村民也是用這些水？

第一個是 C5203 後不久，水量很少，圖看比較差，但實地看卻尚可飲用，當然要先過濾：

另一個是 C5203 和 C5204 之間，黃竹塱範圍，水源相對充足，甚至有小群魚兒在其中！

以上兩個水源皆在路旁，不難發現，但正因為較近路旁，易被人為污染，宜跟著水流稍向上游前進取水，也建議先過濾、煮沸然後才飲用。

A new tent for me 3F Lanshan 2

I finally took the plunge to get one myself.

I've a 3F single person tent for long, and it broke the first time during camping earlier this year at the sunset peak, during a long windy night.  I've tried to fix it but then I found another issue later and that was a harder fix.  Actually, I could still use it except a bigger excuse (not really reason) was it's small size, so that I always want something a bit more roomy.

1.4kg everything included, I mean with the optional groundsheet or footprint.

It's heavier than my 3F single person tent, but it's lighter than my Mobi Garden Air.  Target for camping that requires some non-trivial hiking, say like more than one hour.

Finally got a chance to try it out, very easy to setup, highly wind-proof and stable.

My Cooking System 露營煮食包

This is about my cooking system, all packed inside a green bag:

It's pretty heavy at 873g as you could see, but it's already very much optimized.  Let's see what's inside:

It consists of two titanium stove, one is full sized and the other one was an ultra-small backup inside that little green bag.  There is a simple knife in blue.  Two lighters.  One pan holder which can also hold other hot stuff, like my titanium cup after boiling water, for example.

That orange pattern roll is my wind shield.  That black bag contains a steak titanium knife, a pair of titanium chopsticks, and a long titanium spork.  You can also see an orange silicon tool which is exceptionally useful.  The little plastic bag on the far left holds the tooth picks.  That pink stuff is my electric toothbrush, and the tooth paste was around it.

Finally, a medium sized gray bag holds the oil and seasonings.  I also have a holder for steaming stuff inside.  I also placed some tea bags and dehydrated soup!

And this is my cooking stuff, all titanium.  For 614g, I have a cooking pot, a cup and a bowl inside, finally, a small gas canister is packed inside as well!
