New camping headlamp and fixing the old one (Nitecore)

My trusty headlamp has its mounting damaged during the last camping trip, I packed my stuff too tight.

Anyway, I tried to fix it and here's the process.

This is how it breaks, I tried to glue the broken part back, but it does not work well.

So, I took the plunge to remove it altogether, and then flatten the surface:

And then I will need to find replacement part and the plastic mounting seems to work?

So, I remove one of the mounting holes to be attached on my headlamp back plate:

Given two flattened surface, glue worked far better.

I tried to put the headlamp in different angles and the adjustment mechanism work just fine, and it stayed in place in all the click stop positions.

Of course, it's not original and it's going to fail again without warning.  So I decided to use it only for camping or stargazing, and when I won't need to depend on it for safety.

--

Since reliability is important during night camping, especially sometimes I will go after sunset, so the light has to be trusty during night hiking and camp setup.

So here's my new headlamp, also from Nitecore:

This one is lighter, but the battery life is very similar.  Far more than enough for night camping or overnight hiking trip.

It has no red light mode, and it only got a single button.  The mounting plastic has a lot of holes to reduce the weight, so it's absolutely a light weight headlamp.

When fully retracted in the home position, there's a small cover to protect the button from being accidentally pressed.  Really nice!

The headlamp strap is improved as well.

Note their difference in weight:

16g reduction is significant given their base weight.

Hiking Essentials

Camping Head Lamp

The first one is the cheapest, using 3 AAA battery.  I used re-chargeable ones and they work great.

Not very bright, but enough for hiking and camping.

The second one is nearly double in price, using a single 18650 battery.   It is exceptionally bright and the lighting area is huge, that's great when you setup your tent in the dark.  Excellent for hiking and camping, but if you jump around, it might turn itself off and you will have to switch it back on again manually.

It features a motion sensing mode, so that you can swipe your hand in front of it to switch it on or off.

And that's why I brought this one from Nitecore, more than double the price of the second one, and  it's lighter!  It features a red LED in the middle which could be useful for stargazing, but then it's a bit too bright for that purpose.

It has a built-in rechargeable battery and no problem of turning off even when you jumped around.

Solo Hiking: Dragon's Back

Actually, I did it before, but this time is longer and more complete.

I did wear a heart beat monitor to alert myself, there are so many people along the way perhaps this path is so famous.

Taking bus 9 from Shau Kei Wan MTR station, all the way to 土地灣 (also indicated as Dragon's Back), the entrance of the hiking trail is in view after dropping off.

The view could be really nice when weather permits.

I brought along my ukulele...

I should do more hiking myself and I wish to have my first solo camping soon!
